- SERVITUDE ET GRANDEUR MILITAIRES. Paris, Bonnaire et V. Magen, 1835. In-8, veau cerise, bordure formée d’un triple filet doré, d’une roulette torsadée à froid et d’un filet gras noir, dos orné de roulettes dorées et de gros fers noirs, tranches marbrées, étui moderne (Reliure de l’époque).
Édition originale.
L’ouvrage se compose de trois nouvelles qui permettent à Vigny de protester contre la dure condition du soldat.
Dans une lettre au marquis de la Grange, datée du 28 août 1836, l’auteur a écrit : C’est le pendant de Stello : il a ses trois soldats, comme l’autre ses trois Poètes. Il représente une époque terminée : « la vie de l’armée de la Restauration et sa mort ».
