Édition originale.

D’abord publié en feuilleton dans le journal Le Crédit (décembre 1848-janvier 1849), ce roman fut mis en vente en librairie en août 1849. L’histoire de Fadette, fillette victime des préjugés sociaux, est par bien des côtés une image de l’enfance d’Aurore Dupin.
