Condition

The following condition report has been provided by Simon Parkes of Simon Parkes Art Conservation, Inc. 502 East 74th St. New York, NY 212-734-3920, simonparkes@msn.com, an independent restorer who is not an employee of Sotheby's. This work on canvas has not been recently restored, but seems to be in very good condition. The details on the dock and in the architecture and marine life are all marvelous. There is a noticeable dirt layer throughout, but there do not seem to be retouches of any note. There is a vertical crack in the top of the dome on the left side, which may have attracted some rather broad, non-original repaint that looks darker to the naked eye. It is possible that some of the color around the minaret at the top of this dome is not original, but the condition is good nonetheless, and a full restoration would be very effective.
