Catalogue Note
Though the prime version of this composition by Canaletto is in the Albertini collection, Rome, with a pendant painting of the Riva degli Schiavoni looking East, the present painting follows more closely a later version of the pair of views by Canaletto, sold Sotheby's London, 11 July 1973, lot 45 (see W.G. Constable, with J.G. Links, Canaletto; Giovanni Antonio Canal, 1697-1768, no. 95 aa, plate 191).
