Royal Academy Exhibition of the Works of the Old Masters (as by Nasmyth), according to a label on the reverse. 

Oil on canvas, lined. The surface is covered by a dirty yellow varnish. There are abrasions at the extreme edges, as well as a few drips of gold paint. There is a flattened web of craquelure over most of the work. Under UV light, the varnish fluoresces green and obscures the majority of the work.
