Oil on canvas, lined. The surface has a mottled varnish and a stable web of craquelure with some texture evident in the darks. There is an abrasion and loss to the background above Christ's proper right shoulder. Additional lines of abrasion and loss at the center lower edge and two along the right edge. Additional abrasions along the extreme edges. Under UV light, there are scattered areas of inpainting throughout the background over green fluorescing varnish. Some strengthening to the darks around the figures and additional strengthening in the roots of the tree.
