Condition

Oil on canvas with an old lining. The canvas has relaxed slightly. There is a 6 inch long vertical scratch with accompanying abrasions in the sky in the upper right corner. There is also a small area of stabilized lifting in the stone wall near the center left edge. There is a stable web of fine craquelure over the entire surface. Though there is minor surface dirt, the picture surface is in overall good condition. Under UV light, there is visible retouching along the perimeter. There are two areas of retouching in the upper right corner and an L-shaped line of retouching in the pediment of the ruin at far right. Additional small dots, dashes and areas of inpaint are scattered across the surface, though the largest areas are at the central sky and three small areas in the left of the ruined arch, near center.
