Oil on panel. The panel has evidence of hand-cutting on the reverse. Panel is slightly convex. Surface covered in a dirty, yellow varnish. Abrasions at the edges, especially the lower left edge; central and upper right edges; and the left upper edge. There is an area of puckering along the right upper edge; this puckering continues through the figures. Minor losses at the center left edge. Under UV light, the varnish is heavily applied and somewhat obscures the pictures surface. There are areas of inpaint visible over the varnish in the flag at left; a few small scattered spots around the flag in the sky; and a few older, scattered dashes in the figures at bottom.
