Provenance
In the possession of the family of the present owner since circa 1950.
Condition
Oil on panel. There is vertical craquelure which seems to mirror the grain of the wood. There are scattered spots of dull varnish in the background to the right of Saint John's head and one to the left of his proper right shoulder. There is a spot of inpainting visible to the naked eye between his eyebrows and in his chest. Under UV light, the varnish fluoresces green but these aforementioned areas fluoresce. Additionally, there is a line of inpaint that extends from the upper center edge to the top of Saint John's forehead.
