Engraving, 1501, a very fine, black Meder a impression, printed with touches of burr on the upper section of the tree, Saint Sebastian's forearms and manacled hands, with a part Bull's Head watermark (M. 62)

Provenance

A small circular collector's mark (lower right), perhaps Lugt 2923b, an old English collector's mark which Lugt records as being found on some Rembrandt prints in the British Museum

Ex coll. Duke of Devonshire, Chatsworth, Christie's London, Old Master Prints from Chatsworth, 5 December 1985, lot 13, £4,320, sold his sale, where acquired by Peter and Ann Law and thence by descent

Condition

With thread margins, in good condition apart from some surface creasing caused by old backing along the sheet edges verso, a very small surface nick to the tree, a few fox marks, other minor surface defects and stains, framed.
