Condition

Overall the condition of the group is good with wear and dirt to the surface consistent with age. The group was carved in four horizontal sections with three further inserts to the base. There are losses to the polychromy throughout. There is some naturally occurring stable splitting to the wood at the base. There are a few minor chips to such areas as the hat rims and the ears of the horses. The tail of the horse on the right, the hand of the standing solder, and the base of the cross were reattached.
