  • oak
  • Netherlandish, Antwerp, circa 1510-1520

Provenance

Gerard "Boy" Lommen, Borgloon;

Condition

The polychromy has been stripped from the sculpture and moisture has been drawn from the wood, leaving the surface with a dry appearance. There is splitting consistent with material, including a large split running through Salome. There are a few small losses, including to Salome's proper right foot, to John's proper left index finger and to the tip of the sabre. There are various smaller chips. There is possible restoration to John's proper right foot. There is a knot in the wood at the proper right side of Salome's headdress. There is an original insert in Salome's drapery on the proper right side by the split. There is a metal hook at the back. Otherwise the condition is good.
