Condition

This work has been quite recently restored and should be hung in its current condition. The paper on which it is painted has been lined onto linen, which in turn has been stretched onto a good stretcher. The artist incorporated a lot of white into this picture, which lends the painting a particularly clean and fresh appearance. There is a crack in the paper in the center of the right side that is stable but still visible. There is some non-original paint in this area, extending from the edge into the picture for about 8 inches. Beneath the left side of the figure, there is also some white pigment which does not seem to be original. There is a diagonal line of restorations to the left of the head. There are a few other small marks of retouching in the lower center. However, the work looks well and should be hung as is.
