Grand in-4 (302 x 232 mm). Vélin ivoire, double encadrement de filets, fer à la grenade aux angles, titre calligraphié anciennement en tête du dos (Reliure de l'époque).
Dos sali avec petit manque en pied, et tache noire au bas du second plat.
Bel exemplaire à très grandes marges du chef-d'oeuvre d'Otto van Veen, grand peintre maniériste flamand, maître et ami de Rubens et de son cercle d'érudits. Portrait par Larmessin et 103 emblèmes. Texte en français, latin et en flamand.
Il a conservé sa reliure de l'époque estampée aux armes de son premier possesseur, aux cinq croix, vraisemblablement flamandes, indéterminées. Il a plus tard appartenu au graveur amateur Reverend John Symonds Breedon (1754-1826), dans le Berkshire (ex-libris gravé par lui-même en 1789 et ex-libris autographe daté 1794).
