Condition

Good condition overall. Wear consistent with age and use within the culture. traces of wear with losses all over the surface and especially to the edges. Proper left ear is missing.

Catalogue Note

Ancien gouverneur de la région du Lusambo, Fançois (Fritz) Wenner constitua une importante collection d'art Kuba, célébrée notamment par la statue-portrait du souverain Ntulatshadi Matako, exposée à Anvers en 1937 avant d'entrer dans la collection Stoclet. L'ensemble conservé par Catherine Wenner fut acquis en 1971-72 par le comte Jean-Jacques de Launoit et Alexis Bonew (voir aussi n° 18, 23, 24 et 26).
