The canvas has been lined with a plastic sheet, possibly mylar. The surface is in generally good condition aside from being slightly dirty and some fine pressed craquelure throughout that is lifting slightly in the upper left corner. There are thin streaks in the sky and a 1 1/2 inch painted over brush hair or pre-existing canvas irregularity. There is a 4 by 1 in. vertical band of paint in the lower right side that is slightly lighter than the rest of the composition, possibly from a repair. Under UV; there is some inpainting in the middle of the sky to the right of the sail and a 4 by 1 in vertical band fluoresces in the lower right side from a possible repair.
