Catalogue Note
Victoire Du Bois (1792-1878) was the wife of Félix Eloy (1782-1859).
Trained in the Neoclassical tradition under Jacques Louis David and Joseph Paelinck, de Coene remained loyal to their stylistic tenents of painting throughout his career while maintaining a particular focus on portraiture and genre-painting. de Coene’s works include Des anciens serviteurs de Napoléon buvant à sa santé (1834), now in the collection of the Château de la Malmaison.
