Description
- Venetian School, 18th century
- An Allegorical Figure of Prudence
- point of the brush and two shades of green wash over traces of black chalk
- 22 1/4 by 17 1/4 in.; 56.6 by 43.8 cm.
Condition
Window mounted. There are indications in each corner in wash to suggest an oval shaped framing to the main composition. Surface is in fair condition; there is foxing, staining and surface dirt throughout. A fold runs horizontally through the centre of the sheet and the right edge of this has been repaired to the verso. There are some small holes to the left margin and a further hole to the upper centre of the sheet. There are three notable oil stains, the largest of these to the lower centre of the sheet. The two remaining stains are found in the upper right corner and in the centre of the sheet below the seated female figure. Despite the aforementioned stains the figure itself is relatively unblemished and the medium is fresh.
