  • Italian School, early 18th century
  • recto: Apollo and Daphneverso: A Mythological subject with three male figures
  • pen and brown ink and wash (recto) and red chalk (verso)
  • 11 5/8 by 8 3/4 in.; 29.4 by 22.1 cm.

Condition

Window mounted. The surface is in good conditon aside foxing and staining throughout which is most prevalent to the borders. There are seven pin prick holes to the sheet located as follows: one to the upper centre, two to the upper right corner, two to the lower right corner and two to the lower left corner. There is evidence of old restoration to the verso where these pin holes are located. The sheet itself contains some surface dirt and there are two old repairs to the surface of the sheet in the upper left corner and upper centre. The pen and ink work is still fresh. The verso contains foxing and staining throughout as well as the aforementioned repairs to the pin prick holes from the recto. There is some rubbing to the red chalk however the two male figures and head of a putto are still quite visible.
