The canvas is unlined and undulating slightly, rendering the stretcher bars visible in the front. The surface is generally good condition aside from being slightly dirty and the varnish appears to have darkened and become dull over time. There is a 5 inch vertical scratch with associated paint loss in the upper right side. There are other minor losses throughout particularly in the corners of the painting. There is a repaired 3 inch vertical tear in the center to the left of the figure's shoulder with exposed canvas. Inspection under UV reveals a thick masking varnish.
