The canvas is unlined, somewhat slack and appears to be buckling slightly in the upper left corner. The stretcher bars are visible and there is frame abrasion along all 4 edges. The surface is in generally good condition aside for fine craquelure and scattered pinpoint losses throughout. A heavy, unevenly applied varnish appears thick and raised in areas. The heavy varnish makes it difficult to see any prior retouches under UV, aside for a 1 inch circular spot to the left of the dog's head in the lower left quadrant which is possibly from a repaired tear.
