Condition
The canvas is lined. The surface is in generally good condition aside from pressed craquelure; surface flattened from lining; pigment separation throughout black cloak and in red cloth lower right. Visible retouching top edge and above head. Under UV; apparent masking varnish and one spot of repaint on raised thumb.

Catalogue Note
Rizi was a member of the Benedictine order of Montserrat and wrote treatises on both devotion and painting. In 1628, he left Spain for Italy and died in the Monastery of Monte Cassino.
