PAINT SURFACE
Both paintings appear to be in very good overall condition with no apparent areas of damage or loss of paint. A nice impasto is still intact.
ULTRAVIOLET
Examination under ultraviolet light of the first reveals some minor flecks of scattered retouching in the upper left and some sensitive infilling to old craquelure. There is minor retouching to a small mark upper centre and to the right edge of the middle sail. The second picture has evidence of old retouching in the sea and around the canvas edges, and like the first , sensitive infilling and minor flecks of scattered retouching. The most significant retouchings are to what look like old abrasions centre left, however these are difficult to discern with the naked eye.
FRAME
Both are offered in matching gilt wood and plaster frames.
