Description
- John Paul
- A View of Westminster Bridge, Abbey and Hall from Stangate Bank, Lambeth
oil on canvas
Provenance
Corporate Collection, U.K (acquired in the early 1990's)
Condition
STRUCTURE
The canvas has been firmly lined.
PAINT SURFACE
The painting appears to be good condition with no apparent damage or loss of paint. There is evidence of a thick discoloured varnish and an uneven crauqelure overall in keeping with the painting's age.
ULTRAVIOLET
Examination under ultraviolet light confirms the opacity of the varnish whilst at the same time revealing several campaigns of minor retouching overall. This is for the most part scattered and localised but is predominantly visible in the centre to the skyline and water. Elsewhere there is minor retoucing to the uppermost and left hand canvas edges and strengthening to the building on the right.
FRAME
Held in a gilt wood frame
