Anonymous sale, New York, Christie's, 6th October 1994, lot 106
Condition
STRUCTURE
The canvas appears to have been lined.
PAINT SURFACE
The painting appears to be in good overall condition with no apparent damage or loss of paint, however the paint would appear thin in places, particularly in the lighter pigments.
ULTRAVIOLET
Examination under ultraviolet light reveals some very minor cosmetic flecks of retouching scattered throughout the background. There is also evidence of some vertical retouchings to the canvas edge upper right and there is retouching to two old vertical repaired tears lower left running up approx. 2 in. from the lower canvas edge. However the principal parts i.e. the face, seem to be in good condition. There is also a milky varnish overall.
FRAME
Held in an ornate gilt carved wood frame.
