Catalogue Note
Diagoras was an ancient Greek boxer who in the 5th century BC won two gold medals at the Olympics. His three sons also won gold medals and here he is depicted being carried round the Olympic stadium by two of his sons, as celebrated by Pindar (Olympian Odes VII).
