Description

  • John Phillip, R.A.
  • 'Las Meninas'
  • signed and dated lower left: J. Phillips 1841
  • oil on canvas

Condition

The canvas has been relined, probably in the mid 20th Century. The paint surface is quite flat and under a yellowed varnish, but otherwise appears to the naked eye to be in good condition. Inspection under UV light is inconclusive due to varnish. Removal of the current varnish would improve the overall tonality of the painting. Offered in a later ornate gilt wood frame in good condition.
