Catalogue Note

With a fitted leather case and outer packaging.

A challenge throughout the history of making spring driven clocks and watches is to keep the consistency of the force provided by a spring, as it diminishes when the spring unwinds. In order to keep accurate time, the balance needs to run at a constant rate. As a result, a ¿remontoire¿ is any mechanism that provides a constant force to the escapement other than obtained directly from the gear train.
This exceptional clock is equipped with constant force escapement as the mechanism is used directly on the escapement, giving impulse through the balance spring. This invention coupled with the double-barrels device allows it to run for a longer period of time and better accuracy.
According to Vacheron Constantin archives, only twelve ¿ébauches¿ were produced in 1929, with a long-duration, double-barrel, special ¿remontoire¿ with straight lever escapement.  Only five are known to have been finished and the currect sample was cased in the 1990¿s.
