Catalogue Note

With an Extract from the Archives confirming production with enamel dial and pulsometer-scale in 1914 and sale on October 30th, 1923.

A chronograph watch with pulsations scale on the dial is called a “doctor’s watch”, it helps doctors cut down on time necessary to gauge a person’s pulse and more importantly reduce errors.  The doctor would simply start the chronograph and count 30 heartbeats and then stop the chronograph to see the patient’s pulse per minute on the red scale without further calculations.

Previously offered as lot 444 in the 1999 thematic auction ‘The Art of Patek Philippe’, this example is the only known hunting cased Patek Philippe chronograph pocket watch with vertical register and pulsations scale.
