Catalogue Note

Dishes made in the shape of an open chrysanthemum flower are best known in porcelain with different glazes and enamel coatings, compare the twelve examples illustrated in Evelyn S. Rawski and Jessica Rawson (Eds.), China. The Three Emperors 1662-1795, London, 2005, cat.no. 172. It is, however, extremely rare to find a dish of this chrysanthemum shape made in any other material such as jade and no other jade dish of this form appears to be recorded. An equally rare chrysanthemum dish made in glass was sold in Sotheby's Hong Kong, 30th October 2000, lot 291.
