Condition

neither canvas is lined. SURFACE: the first is in good condition with one small loss at lower right. The second is in good condition with one small loss at lower right corner. UNDER ULTRAVIOLET: the first has scattered inpaints, with one large spot under the sitter's left eye and across his left cheek, as well as underneath his collar. The second has scattered inpaints, notably along the sitter's left arm and slightly to the left of her collar.
