Catalogue Note

With the original Patek Philippe Certificate of Origin and a presentation case.  Together with an Extract from the Archives confirming production in 1970 and sale on August 21st, 1972.

When it made its debut in 1940, Ref. 1463 was Patek Philippe's first water resistant chronograph wristwatch, and was produced in fewer than 750 examples. It was the successor to Ref. 130, another iconic chronograph wristwatch with a snap back.  After production of Ref. 1463 ended in the late 1960s, Patek Philippe did not introduce any other chronograph wristwatches until 1998, when Ref. 5070 debuted.

The inside of the case back is stamped 'FB', the maker's mark for Taubert & Fils. From the late 19th century, when it existed under the name Frères Borgel, Taubert & Fils was one of the finest Geneva-based case makers and specialized in water-resistant cases. The addition of a dust or humidity proof cover further helped to protect the watch movement.  They worked with many firms, including Patek Philippe and Vacheron Constantin.

This present chronograph wristwatch is a superb example of this celebrated reference.  With exceptional provenance, belonging to the original owner who received it as a birthday gift, this impeccable watch is destined for the most demanding collector.  The case and lugs retain high definition and its gold hallmark is crisp on the case band, while the hard enamel signature and scales are raised and untouched.  It has been pristinely preserved with its original certificate and presentation box.

According to our research, this is one of only 50 known to the market in 18k pink gold.
