la façade à ressaut ouvrant à trois tiroirs, les montants à pans coupés, reposant sur des pieds en gaine ; riche ornementation de bronze doré : frise d'entrelacs et tournesols, noeuds de ruban, feuilles d'eau, gouttes et tablier ; dessus de marbre blanc veiné
Condition
Illustration is slightly too orange; in reality, the veneer has kept traces of its original green stain.
Good overall condition.
A few lifts to the veneer, especially to the lattice parquetry ; one horizontal crack on each end of the middle drawer, as visible from the photograph. Very few chips to the veneer.
Nice quality of giltbronze; the sunflower frieze indicates this commode has probably been made for a bedroom.
Fine lock system which enables to lock the three drawers at the same time.
Marble top in good condition, except a few scratches.
Well balanced piece of furniture with harmonious proportions.

Catalogue Note
Notre commode est à rapprocher de deux exemplaires estampillés G. DESTER pour Godeffroy Dester, ébéniste reçu maître en 1774. Une commode a été vendue chez Christie's à Londres le 23 juin 1971, lot 80, tandis que la seconde a été vendue chez Christie's à Paris, le 7 avril 2009, lot 258. Toutes deux possèdent la même forme, le léger ressaut sur la façade et le même décor de marqueterie ; seule diffère sensiblement l'ornementation de bronze doré.
Dester était établi rue du fauboug Saint-Antoine. Parmi ses clients figurait le comte d'Artois pour lequel il exécuta une commode garnie de plaques de porcelaine et un coffre gainé de cuir livré en 1778 par le marchand-mercier Delaroue pour sa chambre au château de Bagatelle.
