Catalogue Note
According to a typed inscription in a 1954 letter from the artist attached to the reverse, this work was painted in Holland in 1903 and "is one of three paintings of the artist's wife wearing a costume of the period of Tennyson's Poems, and executed to illustrate a volume published that year." At the time of this inscription, it was noted that the artist owned the other two portraits of his wife which hung in his home in Upper Melbourne, Quebec.
