Catalogue Note
Lismer's feeling for growth lent a drama to everything he created. In this depiction of Georgian Bay, Lismer employed expressive tonal contrast and complex textural variation. Most striking in this image was the technique employed by the artist, which engaged the point-end of his brush in order to carve lines in the lush amounts of paint. In doing this, Lismer brought the frenetic energy of the forest to his canvas.
