Catalogue Note

Pilot studied art both with his step-father, Maurice Cullen, and the noted teacher, William Brymner.  Widely travelled and trained at the Academie in France, he painted in the Canadian Impressionist style adapting the ideas and techniques he learned abroad.

The town of Magog is in south-eastern Quebec at the foot of Lake Memphremagog, close to the Vermont border.

In this fine overview of the town, the colours of the fall leaves lead into the view of Magog with the church spire dominating the horizon and distant hills.
