Catalogue Note

Coke Smyth came to Canada in 1838 as the drawing master to the daughter of the Earl of Durham.  He published Sketches in the Canadas, an album of 23 hand-coloured lithographs, dedicated to the Earl in 1839. 

In 1968, the Royal Ontario Museum published a facsimile edition through Charles J. Musson, Toronto.  The lithographs in this lot correspond to the numbers 9, 10, 18 and 22 in the album.
