Catalogue Note
The view from Milne's studio window in Uxbridge took in a section of Brock street that included the gas station and the offices of the local paper. Milne painted the scene often and in all seasons and in all sorts of weather. In some paintings, the grand, wide window of the studio above Gray's Bakery framed the picture or was a show place for flowers. Douglas Duncan, Milne's agent / dealer, titled these works Main Street to disguise Milne's whereabouts, since he was scandolously living with a woman having not divorced his wife.
