Catalogue Note

William J. Withrow writes:

The wing-like projections on either side of the central stem of this piece grow out of the shoulder forms of earlier works such as the Dancer.  Although they typically are part of a logical evolution they do mark an important new development.  This is the first sculpture which presages the tendency towards more expanded compositions.  Queen is in this way the parent of the winged works of 1964 - 65, such as Family Group and Flight.
