Catalogue Note

Rouge Mon Amour is a fine example of how McEwen builds layer upon layer of colour, establishing depth, richness, variety, and surprise on his canvas. He applied his pigments with his hands, an unusual method of application, but one that produces, as is evident here, a smoothness and a softness - even a delicacy - that he ultimately moulds into a powerful, unified, and strong statement.
