Catalogue Note

Town habitually worked in series, whether in his single autographic prints, his drawings, or his large paintings.  One such series was was based on a toy horse.

Iris Nowell comments:

For Christmas one year, Harold received an antique tin horse with foot pedals, the kind a small child might ride.  It inspired a major suite of drawings - the Toy Horse - which, to be clear, is not a few dozen drawings, but several hundred (Harold never arrived at a final count) made over the years from 1976 to 1983.  The range is vast, from simple drawings to bold blocky shapes in brilliant pure colours.
