Catalogue Note

Borduas invited Gauvreau, then at the start of his career, to join the Automatistes. In Surrealism and Automatism, Gauvreau found an outlet for his lively imagination.

Although he stopped painting in the early 1960's, he started painting again around 1975, with an emphasis on the exploration of gesture and calligraphy.
