Catalogue Note

Gaucher's original relief prints of the early 1960s astonished artists and curators here in Canada and won major prizes in other countries. They rapidly gave way to his geometric prints, culminating in the 1964 Homage to Webern trilogy, and set him on his long career as a painter of complex, abstract, and much-admired canvases.
