Catalogue Note

Jackson wrote about the three churches in St. Urbain:

The oldest one, probably about 1827, was there in the mid-twenties before I ever got to St. Urbain.  Clarence Gagnon said it was a fine little old church, but the curé wanted a new one, so when the old one got a little crack in it, he had them tear it down.  The second one was the one I did so often, not bad either.  But then fire destroyed more than half the village in the late 1930's, and now they have a thing made out of plywood with a spire like a toothpick and the village is all square wooden boxes with false brick fronts.
