Illustration is quite accurate despite slightly too bright. Overall condition is absolutely fine. The structure is solid; some blocks have been removed under the seat rails. Traces of woodworm holes. Rich model, fine carving and engraving at the back. Some refreshments to the gilding and some expected and usual chips, particularly to the legs. Upholstery in good condition.

Cet ensemble comprenant quatre chaises et un canapé (voir lot suivant) illustre le travail des artisans en sièges actifs à Paris entre 1730 et 1740. De nombreuses analogies présentent sur cet ensemble (chaises et canapé) se retrouvent dans le répertoire décoratif utilisé par des menuisiers parisiens au début du règne de Louis XV comme les Avisse, Tilliard ou Séné

This ensemble, comprising four chairs and a sofa (cf next lot), is typical of the work of Parisian seat-makers in the 1730s. Several of the decorative features of this suite (chairs and sofa) were commonly used by such Paris cabinet-makers as Avisse, Tilliard and Séné at the start of the reign of  Louis XV.
