Catalogue Note
Voir Die Kunst der Augsburger Goldschmiedekunst, Munich, 1980, vol. II, illustr. 563 et 569.
Helmut Seling illustrates another early Augsburg coffee jug of 1695 by Johann Ulrich Baur; also a teapot of 1690 by another member of Baur family Matthaus II engraved with Turkish images, reflecting the fascination with Turkey which existed throughout europe in the 17th, a mixture of interest and terror: see: der Augsburger Goldschmiedekunst, Munich, 1980, vol. II, illus 563 and 569
