Catalogue Note
The image on the basin is taken from Simon Vouet's painting executed in 1644. It was reproduced as an engraving by Michael Dorigny (St Quentin 1617-Paris 1655), reversed and of oval form as it appears on the basin, and then by Melchior Küsel I (1626-1683) who took it to Augsburg . The painting is published in Vouet, Galeries Nationales du Grand Palais, 6 November 1990 - 11 February 1991, Exhibition Catalogue by Jacques Thuillier in collaboration, no. 60
