Provenance
Selon la tradition familiale et une lettre jointe au coffret, cette boîte a appartenu à Jacques-Joachim Chalon-Gambard de la Ruelle, ingénieur et auteur des plans de l'écluse de Slijkens (près d'Ostende). Il avait fait ses études à l'université de Louvain. Il a ensuite été transmis par héritage jusqu'à à l'actuel propriétaire.
