Catalogue Note
Snuff boxes of this unusual octagonal form only appear to have been made for a short time in London around the middle of the 18th century. They are also to be found in gold-mounted agate in a double, lantern-like form. The distinctive French inscription on a white enamel collar is also seen on a large group of London gold-mounted hardstone necessaires of the same period.
