Some denting on base and front, the latter making it slightly difficult to close. Nevertheless a charming and interesting box.

Catalogue Note
Plusieurs origines ont été suggérées pour cette tabatière, de la Batavie à l'Amérique du Sud. Considérant cependant les similitudes du décor avec les boîtes en piqué de Naples, il est fort probable que cette boîte soit originaire du Sud de l'Italie.
There have been many suggestions as to the origins of this type of snuff box, varying from Batavia to South America. In view of the close similarities in the ornament to that on Neapolitan piqué, it is probable that this type of work may originate from Southern Italy.
